Egypt
will participate in OTDYKH Leisure 2017, 23rd International
Trade Fair for Travel and Tourism Forum, which will be held in Moscow from
September 19-21, for the first time since 2015. "The General Authority for
Tourism Activism will participate in the OTDYKH Leisure exhibition next to the
Federation of Tourist Chambers” Said by Mr. Karim Mohsen, charge d'affaires of
the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers to Reuters by telephone.
Egyptian
tourism suffered a devastating blow when a Russian passenger plane crashed in
Sinai in late October 2015 and all those on board were killed. Following the
plane crash, Russia imposed a travel ban on Egypt, while Britain banned travel
to Sinai. Industry experts hope that the Egyptian participation in the
exhibition this year will be an introduction to the return of Russian tourists.
Russia
once contributed about 33 percent of the total number of tourists to Egypt.
Some 3.1 million Russian tourists visited Egypt in 2014 and about 2.3 million
in the first ten months of 2015.
"The
presence of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism through the Tourism Promotion
Authority and the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Tourism represented by the
private sector can be considered as a step to resume Russian flights to Egypt
during the coming period," said by Mr. Elhami El Zayat, head of the
Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers.
